Gunner Shaw Memorial Cross Country

Gunner Shaw was a well-known and respected BC runner who passed away in 1984 at the age of 39 as the result of a car accident.

He is remembered by our cross-country race and by its counterpart in Victoria, organized by the Prairie Inn Harriers club.

2012 YouTube Video

"Cross-country has always been a vital part of my training program. You can develop fine muscular endurance and suppleness in your stride by running cross-country. It also develops good running form and strengthens your muscles"
- Arthur Lydiard

"I love running cross country. On a track I feel like a hamster"
- Robin Williams

"The freedom of cross country is so primitive - it is woman versus Nature"
- Lynn Jennings

"Stadiums are for spectators. We runners have nature and that is much better"
- Juha Vaatainen

"I really like cross country; you're one with the mud"
- Lynn Jennings

"We run because we like it
Through the broad bright land"
- Charles Hamilton Sorley
