Summerfast 10km (July 19th) - by Pamela Campbell
It was a lovely hot and sunny day on Saturday, perfect for running (if you are a lizard), and the day of the Summerfast 10km. It was great to see a fine bunch of LGRRs out at the race. Ketty ran another scorcher placing 1st in Under-20 category in 41:57; Rae ran a very youthful time of 39:55 to nab second in 50-54 age category; Ian got 3rd in the very competitive 20-34 category with a fantastic time of 34:07; and Josh – who had a hard week of training AND played soccer on the Friday before the race – ran an excellent 40:26!! I did the Grouse Grind on Friday (yes, I am getting my excuses in first) and got second in my age category (…we just won’t mention my time and the fact that I was 6 mins behind the first place because that takes the shine off). Mark and Carlos also stopped by after their morning bike ride to provide team support and stimulating conversation. All in all a Saturday morning well spent!

I had a clear goal for this year, focused more on style than result: I wanted to enjoy this year's race more than I had my five previous attempts. The only way this will happen is with a very slow start and diligently looking after nutrition and hydration. You will see that I tried -- but it did not entirely work out as planned.

Club members recent results
Here are some LGRR members results from recent races. There are some good results across the board, but one thing that stands out is Ray's name: five races in the span of 16 days. And that includes a half marathon and two tough trail races.

LGRR results from recent races
Here are a few Lions Gaters results from races in the past few weeks. It's great to see Daniel and Marcus Ribi running so well this year. They do have the benefit of good genes and a very experienced mentor in Willi.
Also, best of luck to all who are running the Scotia half marathon this Sunday. It looks like over 4000 have entered - and that's just the online pre-entries. For all you procrastinators, tomorrow is the last chance to enter.
