SOGGY SEAWALL RACE A BIG HIT

Thanks to all of our participants that braved the wet weather to run the 41st Annual James Cunningham Seawall Race. We had Hot Soup from Pacific Natural Foods and Hot Coffee from Waves Coffee House to warm you up afterwards. Here is a link to the race results from WINNING TIME – RACE RESULTS.

Top male and female winners were Kevin Friesen (29:40) and Natasha Wodak-Fraser (33:51). They join our prestigious list of PAST WINNERS.

In 2010 we celebrated the 40th Annual James Cunningham Seawall Race and we had some of our past winners present to help us celebrate. Also present was Don Basham, (who was the race director for the first 20 years) as well as Jack Taunton and Ivor Davies who helped to found the race in 1971. The running club that started it all (Lions Gate Road Runners) is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year as the first road running only club in BC.

Help us celebrate in 2011 by participating in the 41st Annual James Cunningham Seawall Race. Although it is the 41st annual race it is in fact the 40th Anniversary of the event that started shortly after the seawall was officially opened in September 1971.

We look forward to offering you another great event this year. Online registration is now open.

Update: Course & Parking

You’ve probably noticed that Stanley Park is getting a bit of a face lift and we’re excited to see the final result. In the meantime, below is some information on how these new developments are affecting you:

At Brockton Point, there is a detour starting roughly at the Totem Poles. Our course will be adjusted so that runners will take this detour and run on the sidewalk until after Brockton Point, where we can safely transition back to the seawall. But have no fear! The course is still measured properly so you won’t be shortchanged your 9.5km!
There is a project underway at the entrance of Stanley Park off of Beach Avenue to Ceperley Park. Equipment for this project is being stored in the parking lot at Ceperley Park, reducing the number of available parking spots significantly. Please plan for alternate parking or transportation to the race site.
